SemesterTicket
With the SemesterTicket, students can travel for an entire semester on the entire network of the Regio-Verkehrsverbund Freiburg (RVF) for just € 96. It is valid for all city trains, buses and suburban trains (2nd class / no ICE and IC / EC trains) in the city of Freiburg and in the districts of Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald and Emmendingen. Students can therefore use it not only for journeys to the university, but also during their free time.
Students who are enrolled at one of the following Freiburg universities can purchase the inexpensive SemesterTicket of the Regio-Verkehrsverbund Freiburg (RVF):
Uni Freiburg
University of Education
University of Music
Catholic University of Applied Sciences Freiburg
Protestant University of Applied Sciences Freiburg
Macromedia University of Applied Sciences
International Study and Vocational Academy ISBA - Freiburg campus
Of the € 103 student union fee that students at these universities pay each semester when they re-register at their university, € 28 goes to the Regio-Verkehrsverbund Freiburg (RVF) as the basic fee for the SemesterTicket. This basic contribution makes the low-priced SemesterTicket possible. The SemesterTicket is not transferable and is only valid together with a valid student ID. For students of the University and the University of Education with the current certificate of enrollment and the UniCard or, in case of online purchase, with an official photo ID (see below).
Alternatively, students from other universities can use the RegioKarte Schüler or the SchülerAbo in the RVF.
For students of the University of Fribourg and the PH Pädagogische Hochschule Fribourg, online purchase is more advantageous: Those who purchase the SemesterTicket online after one-time registration (see link under Further Information on the right or below) only need to show an official photo ID at the checkpoint.
When buying the SemesterTicket at a vending machine or at a point of sale, students of the university and the PH must also take a current certificate of enrollment and the UniCard with them, as well as for trips with the public transport system after 7 p.m./on Sunday. It's easier online!
For students of the University of Music and the Catholic University, the SemesterTicket is also available online.
For students at all other Freiburg universities, the SemesterTicket is still available at the VAG pluspunkt in Salzstraße 3 at Bertoldsbrunnen or at the bike station at the main train station, at the DB sales points and vending machines, and at the SBG customer centers. The student ID serves as proof.
You can find an overview of the required documents on the right.
Without a SemesterTicket, all students have free travel on the buses and trains of the RVF from 7:00 p.m. until the end of operations as well as on Sundays and public holidays. However, proof is required here as well. (see right)
A free "7 p.m. proof" is available online for students of the University of Freiburg and the PH, which, with photo identification, allows free use of buses and trains in the RVF after 7 p.m. and on Sundays and public holidays, regardless of the purchase of a SemesterTicket. They can be printed out in the VAG online store (print@home) - and simply renewed if lost - or uploaded to the free RVF app FahrPlan+. This way, they are always with you during inspections, and can also be displayed offline.
Students on leave of absence cannot purchase the SemesterTicket!
The new "D-Ticket JugendBW" is the low-cost Deutschland-Ticket. It is aimed, among others, at young adults under the age of 27, who are studying, in apprenticeship or doing voluntary service. An important requirement is that the person must live in Baden-Württemberg. Alternatively, the person's school or college must be in Baden-Württemberg.
You find more information about the "Deutschland-Ticket JugendBW" in the infobox.
The Deutschland-Ticket is only available as a subscription, i.e. not as a single monthly ticket. The subscription can be cancelled on a monthly basis. The ticket is personal, i.e. non-transferable. The ticket is available at the customer centers of the transport associations. As a rule, the ticket is sold via the Internet portals of the transport associations. Deutsche Bahn sells the ticket online, via its app and in DB travel centers.

The social ticket of the city of Freiburg is not an RVF fare. They are subsidized offers by the city of Freiburg for certain groups of people, e.g. recipients of social benefits such as housing subsidies. The RegioKarte Basis, the 2x4-FahrtenKarte of price level 1 and also the Deutschland-Ticket are subsidized. The Sozialticket is available at VAG sales outlets.
The city of Freiburg has compiled all the essential information on these offers, on how to apply for them and on who is entitled to them here:
